Underworld Mexico: Calendar Gates, Xibalba and the Midgard Route

Follow Southern Mexico’s two calendar puzzles, timed entrance and underground key rooms in Tomb Raider: Underworld.

Learn the roads before the timed run

Southern Mexico connects multiple ruins by motorcycle. The Unnamed Days and Xibalba establish the above-ground routes and calendar mechanisms. Identify the road back to the central gate before completing the final activation: a correct calendar setting is not enough if you then ride into the wrong branch.

Use a manual save near a useful checkpoint. Avoid treating an optional treasure path as the fastest route through the gate.

Work through the underground houses

The Midgard Serpent section brings the route into the Lords of Xibalba chamber and its corner rooms. Recover the named house keys from their respective trials, then return to the central mechanism. Keep track of each acquired key rather than repeating every branch when one remains missing.

The journey continues into Land of the Dead and the next Thor-related objective. Save before major transitions and after confirmed progress.

A platform-specific warning

The PC/PS3/Xbox-style chapter contains The Midgard Serpent as a separate section; the Wii and PS2 chapter structure differs. Historical bug reports also describe missing ramps or inventory problems. If your route no longer matches the reference, stop overwriting saves and consult the exact affected-version note rather than attempting an unsupported shortcut.
